What's New?
CPR: The Video Game?

A new research project conducted through the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) has gained much support from the American Heart Association (AHA) recently. Graduate students and 2 of their instructors are working on a computer program that will teach CPR. It uses an internet connection for download, and a Nintendo Wii console and controllers to run.

The project has been sponsored by the AHA to the tune of $50,000. The developers originally started it as their graduating project, but have now turned it into a life saving tool. With a predicted Fall 2009 completion and launch date, their research will soon become a reality.

The program will be available through the AHA. Users will download the program (for free!) from the AHA website, and then run the program through a Nintendo Wii.

This new application makes learning CPR easier and more accessible to the public. By completing the training, users will have all the knowledge needed to perform CPR and potentially save lives.

Many other applications exist to help both civilians as well as EMS care providers:
  • ResQr First Aid & CPR Coach is a first aid and CPR     application that helps users provide care in various     medical emergencies.
  • 911 Help indicates the need for help by having the screen     flash red and white.
  • Medical Resources, Davis's Drug Guide, and Epocrates     all provide drug and care knowledge and information for     care providers.
  • Smart-ICE stores personal medical history information     that can be accessed by EMS care providers; it also     uses an automatic emergency alert tone to signal     when help is needed.

NEMSIS Gold Standard

Commerx has recently received formal accreditation from NEMSIS that our ePCR application is officially recognized as Gold Compliant. This project required a great deal of time and effort, and we are proud to finally have it approved.

The National EMS Information System (NEMSIS) is a US based initiative that collects pre hospital care information from agencies across the United States. NEMSIS maintains the resulting database diligently as it has many important benefits:
  • Knowledge sharing
  • EMS training
  • Patient care improvement
  • Combining research efforts

By committing the time and resources necessary to maintain NEMSIS Gold Compliance, Commerx ensures we collect a standard data set from your agency to submit to the national EMS database. This in turn helps you to be compliant with both state and federal regulations.

If your organization needs a NEMSIS interface, we're happy to help. Give us a call to see how we can improve your data collection and regulatory compliance.
